Whew…the Rooney’s have been busy this weekend! We have finally tackled some projects we’ve been meaning to get to for quite some time. Don’t you just love crossing off items on your to-do list?!? Amazing feeling!! :)
We kicked the weekend off with a fun Friday date night. Friday evening, after clinical, I headed home, took a super quick shower (a long day of my critical care clinical = a serious need for a shower – kinda gross, huh?) then we headed off to for a low-key date night. We started at Borders, we both love, LOVE to read so we really enjoy perusing bookstores, libraries…anywhere with books really. While we were there, Kevin almost discovered one of his Valentines gifts – yikes! After Borders, we headed over to a nearby pet store where we played with lots of little animals and decided that we can’t wait to have a house so we can get a puppy, we are both really, really ready to have a puppy!!! Then, it was definitely time for dinner so we made our way to the Nebraska Brew Company. We’ve been meaning to go for a while now but just haven’t made it, well, we are so glad we went; it’s without a doubt one of our new favorites! Great food, great beer, great service – the perfect trio!
We were very blessed to be able to sleep in Saturday morning. After a leisurely morning, I was off to a graduation meeting and Kevin left to workout. We rendezvoused back at base camp (aka, our apartment) before heading off to Garden Ridge (the coolest place ever!! Seriously, I think they have EVERYTHING) for a couple last minute things we needed to finish our projects. Then, we began making our first-ever batch of cannolis (using this recipe) and they turned out really good. Since I am the daughter of a Dietitian, I’m always thinking of ways to make something a bit healthier so, we baked a few of the shells instead of frying them…sadly, I don’t recommend doing that, they did not taste the way they should. We ended the day with a movie and more cannolis.
Today we have hit our to-do list in a big way. I’m sure everyone has seen the last name pictures that use different shapes or letters to spell out a couple’s last name, well, Kevin and I decided that we would make our own. It was a lot of fun to do and I think it turned out pretty good. Finding a frame to fit 6 letters was the biggest challenge – but, we found it at Garden Ridge (see what I mean?!? They have it ALL!). Also, a while ago I saw some black shelves that I thought would look really neat in a grouping with our last name picture, so Kevin hung the shelves and the new pictures and I think looks great. The *only* thing is that it looks a little “wedding shrine-ish” which I don’t really like but, we will put some different pictures up eventually. We took a break to peak in on an open house and discovered the floor plan of our dreams! Nothing McMansion-esque but, perfect for us. Here's the floor plan, in case you're curious, we would also add a walk-out basement with a 4th bedroom (we are hoping for lots of little ones one day and would like to grow into this house). Now, if we could only find a place to build it...*sigh*. Lastly, we’ve started step 1 of my big drape project. I have this idea in my head and I’m trying to find the fabric I need to bring it to life….hopefully it looks as good in real life as it does in my mind – lol! And….tonight is taco night for, yay! I love taco night! I think our plan for the rest of the night is tacos, cannolis and Desperate Housewives!
I hope everyone else had a productive & fun weekend too!
