Dinner & a Movie

After a long week, not a whole lot beats dinner and a movie with your wonderful husband and some great friends.

We went to Kona Grill - YUM!

We started off with some delicious calamari and then ordered a TON of sushi. I absolutely LOVE sushi!! I could seriously eat it everyday. And, of course, I had a great glass of wine with it. :)

Since I haven't seen our friends in a while we had LOTS of catching up to do. They are getting married in May so I was super curious to hear how wedding planning was going. I had a blast planning my wedding and Lindsey was a big help so I definitely want to be able to help her out too. Kevin & I (ok, me more than Kevin - lol) can't wait to be able to throw them a couples shower!!

After dinner we headed off to see He's just not that into you.

Mostly, I thought it was really cute. I was really surprised how much I enjoyed this movie. Once you get passed some of the cheesy, chick-flick-ish comments, it had a really great message.

D-O-N-E with my Cardiac Rotation

In case you hadn't guessed it from the title, I'm really excited to be done with this rotation. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I've had this experience and I've absolutely loved my patients but, I'm ready to move on. Moving on means - Spring Break is just around the corner, Not having this clinical opens up A LOT more time for studying & most importantly it means that I'm one step closer to graduation!!

I go to the ER next and I'm kinda nervous....maybe not nervous, I guess I just don't know what to expect. For me, the hardest part of each rotation is always the first day, you never know what to expect, you don't know where anything is, you don't know people's personalities, etc....alot like the first day of a new job. But, I'm excited to move on.

On a non-nursing school note, Kevin & I are going out with some friends tonight...friends I haven't seen in a while so I'm pretty pumped!! Yay!!

Hope Everyone had a GREAT Friday!!

My BFF's Baby Shower

I just have to say that this trip home might have been the fastest trip home we've ever made. We were there for about 28 hours, and considering it's an 8 hour drive and we did have to sleep sometime - yeah, it was pretty fast. But, I am so glad we went. I wouldn't have missed my Christina's baby shower for the world. I'm so glad I was able to spend time with my two BFF's and my fabulous Aunt....every moment of the time we spent with them made this weekend worth it and I wouldn't have rather spent it any other way.

Since I'm in clinical until late Friday night, we woke up bright and early Saturday morning and headed to good ole' OKC. Luckily, I'm not one of those people that gets car sick while reading and since Kevin (my fantastic husband) drove I was able to get some great studying done.

Whenever we go back home, we always stay with our friends, Heidi & Eric. They are a great couple and are incredibly generous with letting us stay with them when we come to town. Heidi and I have been best friends for years and I couldn't be happier that our husbands are becoming friends too - don't you just love when that happens?!?! :) They are seriously great and we have so much fun with them.

As soon as we got to OKC, I took the worlds fastest shower and got ready in record time(seriously someone should have called the Genius book of world records). Then Heidi and I headed to Shawnee for the shower (also my hometown and where the mother-to-be lives). We were really so busy that I didn't take many pictures. Crazy, I know!! Especially coming from the girl who takes her camera everywhere - just crazy. Luckily, Heidi grabbed the camera and snapped a few pics....

The Beautiful Mom-to-be Opening her presents { oh, and the random girl taking notes next to her is me :) }

The adorable cake

We did find time to stop at my new favorite cupcake place. Sara Sara Cupcake is bright, cheerful place with yummy cupcakes....what more could a girl ask for??? Funny how I always have time for food, isn't it? Lol!

I just CANNOT wait for Christina to have her baby! I just can't wait to meet the little man!! I promise to post lots of adorable baby pictures!!

O-K-L-A-H-O-M-A Baby!!!

Hello blog friends!! I'm so excited to be able to write that my week is finally over! Woo Hoo!! Kevin and I are getting up really, really, really early tomorrow morning for good ole' Oklahoma! It's always nice to go home....even if it is just for the weekend. Especially when it's for....your best friend's BABY SHOWER!!! I'm so excited for her! I have bought TONS of stuff (I've gone way over my little shopping budget - lol) and I can't wait to share this time with her before her adorable son arrives. :)

Talk to you lovely ladies later!!

I hope everyone has an awesome weekend!!

Is it Summer Yet?!?!

I'm so, so, so done with this cold weather!! It's been in the high 20's A L L day L O N G! Plus, the sun hasn't come out either - very sad. Even though is only February, I'm ready to head out to the lake, lay out, go to the pool, see the sun out past 6pm, running outside again (because I'm a wimp and don't like to run outside when it's below freezing), outdoor concerts, not to mention that I'm so ready for some summer clothes! Oh yeah, I'm absolutely ready for sun dresses and my Old Navy flip-flops (aren't those just the best!?!?).

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm hardly bikini ready....I have a few more Pilates sessions to go before I can even talk about a bathing suit BUT, I'm definitely ready for a warm Spring day. Something warm enough for an outdoor meal. Oh! In fact, I know just the place! There is a super cute restaurant in Omaha's Old Market where I'd like to celebrate my first outdoor meal of the season - the restaurant is called M's Pub (but, it's not really a "Pub"), they have really yummy food and an adorable patio/garden area in the Spring and Summer....hmmm, I'm not sure how I just transitioned into food but, that maybe part of my not being "bikini ready" problem - ya think?!?

Well, I should probably go back to my clinical paperwork, but....day dreaming about warm weather is much more fun. ;)

Hug an Engineer this week because its.....

NATIONAL ENGINEERS WEEK!!!!

I don't have to go far to hug an engineer because my husband is an engineer!! As an active Officer in the Navy, I know he does a whole lot at work and I'm very grateful for all of it! :) And, in honor of his Alma Mater, Virginia Tech (go Hokies!) I've decided to do this post in maroon and orange (or, at least versions of these colors so they show up on my pink back - lol).

Also, speaking of Engineers Week....Kimmie at Living in Dallas and Loving It is hosting a PINK Cupcake Giveaway. Pink + Cupcakes = the perfect giveaway for me!!! So, don't forget to head over to her blog to sign up!

I L-O-V-E My Husband!

Something Happened to me.
It was the sweetest thing that ever could be;
It was a fantasy;
A dream come true;
It was the day I met you!
-- Mandy Forkner

Seriously?!?! What a perfect quote! This quote describes exactly how I feel about my husband. Because of everything we both have going on right now, we don't exactly get to spend as much time together as we would like so, this weekend was such a treat to have him here and to spend some amazing time together. :) I couldn't have imagined a better way to spend our first Valentine's Day(as a married couple, that is). It's funny how even though this weekend didn't go as we planned...in many ways I think it turned out to be so much better than we could have ever planned - Definitely one of those times when you know God is in control.

I'm so blessed to have such an amazing, patient, Christian man as my husband. This weekend has been so wonderful and I'm so sad that it's coming to an end....it's definitely been one of those weekends that you wish will never end. But, since I have class really early tomorrow morning it's time for me to turn-in for the night.

I hope everyone else had a wonderful weekend too!!!

You Ladies ROCK!!!

Thank you all SO much for your super motivating comments!! Normally, I love, love reading your comments BUT, reading the comments from my recent post was even better!! You ladies are all so amazing and I'm so blessed to have you as blog friends. :)

Your comments really made my day. I think venting & reading everyone's advice really helped. I feel a million times better today....I was pretty stressed yesterday but, that was probably pretty obvious - lol!

Anyways, I was blessed with a "snow 1/2 day" (I guess that's what it would be called since it wasn't a full "snow day") and I have already finished part of my homework and going to tackle my next project - woo hoo!

Happy Valentine's Day Eve!!!

I NEED more time!!

Lately I've been feeling really, really overwhelmed. School is so busy and I really feel as though I don't have time for else. Even when I am in the middle of a project, or studying, I can't stop thinking about all the other things I need to do. It's just frustrating. I really think that things will really start to slow down once I'm done with clinical rotation...or, at least that's what I'm telling myself. Yesterday I had a *mild* OCD fit and wrote down everything I have due in the upcoming weeks and then, broke it all down into day-to-day to do lists....I hope it helps. I'm still wondering how it's all going to get done. Anyone with time budgeting tips?

In other news...It's suppose to snow tomorrow and I'm soooo hoping/praying for a blizzard - lol!

Praying for my Okies....

Since Tuesday is my "busy" day, I always wake up early Wednesday mornings, check my email and voice mail to see what I missed on Tuesday...well, today, I received an email from a friend back home about yesterday's storms. I feel so bad for everyone that has been affect by all these storms. So, yesterday while I was going on and on.....and on about how beautiful the weather was in Omaha, my home state, Oklahoma, was getting hit by some tornadoes. One of the tornadoes hit a neighborhood where some of my family's friends live (the picture above is from their neighborhood). Our friends homes are all just fine (such a blessing!), just some roof damage but, the neighborhood itself sustained some pretty serious damage. Just in case you're interested, here's the link for the full story. Please join me in keeping everyone affected by these storms in your prayers. Thanks Everyone :)

My 1st Photoshop Project!

So, I *just* got Photoshop this weekend and since we have been super busy I haven't had the chance to play around with it. So, when I got home from class tonight I was determined to sit down and play with it. I'm surprised at how easy it was to create my little collage....yes, I realize it probably looks like a 2nd grader made it but, it was really fun to do. ;)

I can't wait to have more time to play around with it!! If anyone has any Photoshop tips, I'd love to hear them! :)

Curtains!

This post might just be the most pointless post I've ever written and, I'm totally sure that no one but me really cares about my living room curtains but....I feel that it really is the little victories in life that makes life so great. Tonight we hung (and rehung) our drapes. Since it's already kinda late (and dark) the picture didn't turn out so great but, the general idea is that the red drapes are behind the gold ones and the red valance is on top of both layers. Kevin and I are pretty happy with the way it turned out and, I think that they have made our living room even more cozy and inviting.
Ok, that's enough blogging about nothing for me (for today anyway - lol). I'm off to pour myself (and my husband) a glass of red wine and then going to study for my respiratory quiz tomorrow. Speaking of my quiz....wish me luck, I may need it. ;)

We've been tackling our to-do list!

Whew…the Rooney’s have been busy this weekend! We have finally tackled some projects we’ve been meaning to get to for quite some time. Don’t you just love crossing off items on your to-do list?!? Amazing feeling!! :)

We kicked the weekend off with a fun Friday date night. Friday evening, after clinical, I headed home, took a super quick shower (a long day of my critical care clinical = a serious need for a shower – kinda gross, huh?) then we headed off to for a low-key date night. We started at Borders, we both love, LOVE to read so we really enjoy perusing bookstores, libraries…anywhere with books really. While we were there, Kevin almost discovered one of his Valentines gifts – yikes! After Borders, we headed over to a nearby pet store where we played with lots of little animals and decided that we can’t wait to have a house so we can get a puppy, we are both really, really ready to have a puppy!!! Then, it was definitely time for dinner so we made our way to the Nebraska Brew Company. We’ve been meaning to go for a while now but just haven’t made it, well, we are so glad we went; it’s without a doubt one of our new favorites! Great food, great beer, great service – the perfect trio!

We were very blessed to be able to sleep in Saturday morning. After a leisurely morning, I was off to a graduation meeting and Kevin left to workout. We rendezvoused back at base camp (aka, our apartment) before heading off to Garden Ridge (the coolest place ever!! Seriously, I think they have EVERYTHING) for a couple last minute things we needed to finish our projects. Then, we began making our first-ever batch of cannolis (using this recipe) and they turned out really good. Since I am the daughter of a Dietitian, I’m always thinking of ways to make something a bit healthier so, we baked a few of the shells instead of frying them…sadly, I don’t recommend doing that, they did not taste the way they should. We ended the day with a movie and more cannolis.

Today we have hit our to-do list in a big way. I’m sure everyone has seen the last name pictures that use different shapes or letters to spell out a couple’s last name, well, Kevin and I decided that we would make our own. It was a lot of fun to do and I think it turned out pretty good. Finding a frame to fit 6 letters was the biggest challenge – but, we found it at Garden Ridge (see what I mean?!? They have it ALL!). Also, a while ago I saw some black shelves that I thought would look really neat in a grouping with our last name picture, so Kevin hung the shelves and the new pictures and I think looks great. The *only* thing is that it looks a little “wedding shrine-ish” which I don’t really like but, we will put some different pictures up eventually. We took a break to peak in on an open house and discovered the floor plan of our dreams! Nothing McMansion-esque but, perfect for us. Here's the floor plan, in case you're curious, we would also add a walk-out basement with a 4th bedroom (we are hoping for lots of little ones one day and would like to grow into this house). Now, if we could only find a place to build it...*sigh*. Lastly, we’ve started step 1 of my big drape project. I have this idea in my head and I’m trying to find the fabric I need to bring it to life….hopefully it looks as good in real life as it does in my mind – lol! And….tonight is taco night for, yay! I love taco night! I think our plan for the rest of the night is tacos, cannolis and Desperate Housewives!

I hope everyone else had a productive & fun weekend too!

Happy Weekend

Good Morning!

I can't even tell you how happy I am that the weekend is finally here....and, on top of it all, we have some amazing weather! So, I'm kicking my weekend off with a cup of my favorite mint tea and an English muffin with some homemade strawberry jam - yum!

I'm so excited about our unseasonably warm weather - woo hoo! After the weather we have had this winter, Omaha definitely deserves some warmer weather. I have lots of little errands to run today but, Kevin and I are determined to make our way to one of Nebraska's many state parks to have some fun in the sun! ...Epically since it is going to snow next week :(

I managed to survive my first Complex Nursing test and a pretty intense clinical week - have I mentioned I'm very happy it's finally the weekend - lol! :) But, there will be no rest for this nursing student - we have a quiz Monday so I will be doing lots of studying this weekend.

Have a Great Weekend Friends!

Are you going to wear red tomorrow???

Especially since I'm currently working on a cardiac floor, I feel the need to mention how devastating heart disease can be and what a silent killer it is for women. In honor of bringing attention to heart disease as a women's issue, I encourage everyone to wear red tomorrow. Click here to find out more!

Superbowl Sunday

I love Superbowl Sunday! I love watching football, eating tasty food, hanging out with friends, and of course, talking about the commercials....I mean come on, what's not to love?!? ;)

For years, my house was the place to be on Superbowl Sunday and I have some really great memories of those parties and I can't wait to have a house again so we can do lots of entertaining. Since my husband is out-of-town (yeah, sadly, he's gone a lot) I've still been cookin' it up and am going to take some yummy treats to a friend's house where I will be "watching" the game - probably more talking to my friends than anything and eating lots of junk food!

I hope you guys are all having a great Superbowl Sunday!!

P.S. Go Cardinals!!!
